Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship cell, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, WCE ACM Student Chapter, Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli(WCE) are pleased to invite you to participate in the third edition of WCE Hackathon at Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli. WCE Hackathon’18 was the first hackathon ever organized in Southern Maharashtra. WCE Hackathon has a successful legacy for the last two years.

This year it aims to provide an even greater platform for the young developers across the country to nurture their ideas and building something innovative for good of the community. The event is designed for 24 hours, from 21st to 22nd March 2020.

It will be an open platform application development and it will be on the participating team’s discretion whether to develop a web application or mobile application or any kind of software or hardware for any idea under provided domains.

With that spirit, Walchand College of Engineering is conducting a hackathon - WCE Hackathon 2020 and invites all developers and hackathon enthusiasts to participate in an interesting and engaging hackathon.

The Hackathon will be conducted in 3 phases:

  1. Online Round-Abstract Submission: The Problem Domains will be released on the website. Registered teams will have an abstract submission with a detailed description of their idea.

  2. Online Round-Skype Interview: In this round, the qualified teams will have to go through a Skype interview of 10-15 min. The major motive of this phase is to check the abilities of the teams to develop what they have proposed in round 1.

  3. Onsite Round-Development: This will onsite Hackathon of 24-hours where you need to build what you have proposed to build a product out of it.



A.P1 : Automated irrigation management system

Farmers in India are solely dependent on the rains and bore wells for irrigation. They have to struggle hard to achieve sustained progress in irrigation. Currently, farmers are using irrigation techniques where the farmers irrigate the land at regular intervals by turning the water-pump ON/OFF manually when required. This becomes a hectic job for them to travel so far for switching ON/OFF the motor. Propose an embedded system for automatic irrigation that can support site-specific irrigation management.

A.P2 : Middle-man elimination

The rising cost of food is often blamed on a multi-layered system of middle-man involved in the distribution of produce from farm to fork. Build a marketing network for agricultural commodities for the benefit of producer and consumer. Precisely, propose a technology-enabled solution to eliminate the middle-man and create a direct communication between producer and consumer.

A.P3 : Platform to connect farmers and agriculture officers

Develop a platform to connect farmers and agriculture officers to solve farmer's issues regarding crop, weed, pest damage, disease damage, nutrient deficiency. Questions can be asked by farmers (internet users) using text, images and can be answered, edited by agriculture officers/departments. Farmers(users) should able to search, view questions that have been raised and their answers. Questions raised by farmers should get notified when it has answered or edited.

A.P4 : Pest attack warning system.

A warning system for pest attack in different agro-climatic zones- Early disease detection with high precision is essential in the agricultural field. Unfavorable temperature, solar radiation, and extreme climate conditions give rise to many disease/pest attacks on different varieties of crops. Therefore crop production is heavily affected by pests and diseases. Design a system that will give a prior warning about the attacks so that users could take correct prevention and proper treatment measures in order to obtain the maximum economic benefits.


C.P1 : Avoiding unauthorized usage of software

In this technical world, there are many software/applications which are always there to make our task much easier than it seems to be. Unfortunately, unauthorized access to software is increasing day by day. For example, a cracked version of the software can easily be downloaded from torrent sites. So, the developers who are genuinely putting their efforts are not getting what they deserve. Propose a solution in which you can -

  1. Prevent unauthorized access
  2. Even if someone downloads the pirated software then he/she should not be able to use it until he/she has paid the respective cost of the software.

C.P2 : Security for IoT devices

We’re rolling out more and more sensor-packed, internet-connected devices, but the Internet of Things remains a major weak point for defenses. We have millions of connected devices that have little to no defense against hackers. Thus, ensuring a higher level of protection for IoT devices and systems is essential. All too often these devices lack basic security features, or they aren’t properly configured and rely upon default passwords that can give attackers easy access. The thing with IoT devices is that most of the users don’t get to know if their device is hacked. This, in turn, is giving rise to botnets, which can be used for volumetric attacks, to steal data, to identify further vulnerabilities, or for brute force attacks.

C.P3 : Trace VOIP call history

Various applications such as WhatsApp, Skype use Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) for multimedia communication due to certain benefits. With over 1.5 billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is the most popular mobile messenger app worldwide. For WhatsApp operators, finding who is talking to is trivial, there is no need to sniff packets. This type of information is included in what is known as meta-data and is made available to law enforcement upon admissible requests. In the case of a crime scene, investigating authorities wants to trace calls made by the culprit before the crime. Since WhatsApp uses VoIP for voice calls, if the culprit eradicates his/her WhatsApp call log from his/her account, a big hurdle is to trace the calls. Develop an application for WhatsApp call history details retrieval for forensic purpose.

C.P4 : Detect use of VPN or Proxy

Many people use VPN or Proxy to access the restricted sites. Propose a solution that could detect the use of a VPN or Proxy as well as scan the Whois record to find the IP address history.

Smart and Safe Transportation

T.P1 : Pollution-free routes

Transportation through low air quality index areas decreases the air quality of the area as well as it is harmful to the health of the person using that route, so it is better to avoid these kinds of routes. Find the solution over the problem and build an android or ios based app which will suggest the best suitable route for the journey.

T.P2 : Handling speed limits

Regions having high pedestrian density or the residential areas are prone to accidents these days. Most people also have a habit of attending phone calls while driving, which leads to an increase in the number of accidents. Considering this scenario, participants are expected to create an application to minimize the risks of accidents. One of the trivial solutions could be, the application should set the phone on Driving Mode and the caller should get a driving message instead of dial tone (or SMS notifying that callee is driving). It should also detect the road signs, traffic density, school areas, etc. and decide the safe speed value. If this threshold is crossed it should issue a warning to the driver.

T.P3 : Smart Parking

Nowadays the parking of a car has become one of the most difficult tasks. Finding available vacant spots/places is a time and fuel consuming. This problem may cause drivers to get frustrated and eventually improper parking will appear that may lead to traffic congestion. Design a Smart Parking System that will be able to find the nearest available vacant spot at malls etc. Appropriate extra features are appreciable.


H.P1 : Contaminated water detection

The discharge of untreated raw sewage from households and factories, urbanization, the rising use of synthetic organic substances, dumping of chemicals from factories and many other reasons, the contamination of water has been observed as one of the most impactful problems in the urban area. The contaminated water is responsible for many infectious diseases such as Typhoid, Cholera, Paratyphoid Fever, Dysentery, Jaundice, Amoebiasis, and Malaria. The system which detects the contamination of water and provides data about the quality of water would be a helpful solution to overcome this problem. The system should also be able to analyze the location of contamination. Teams are expected to provide a solution to detect the contaminated water in the water distribution network. This system can be built in two parts :

  1. The electronic hardware product which detects the contamination of the water and can be deployed at the water distribution network level.
  2. An application which is used to show the data about the quality of the water and analyze the location of contamination.

H.P2 : Automated Supply Chain Management for Hospitals

The most important aspect of any hospital inventory management system is the maximization of technological resources. While many inventory managers might take the use of technology for granted, many facilities are still lagging when it comes to converting to complete software and/or electronic-based management system. Many designated inventory managers still rely on a pen and paper-based system for tracking supply usage and dispersal. If the inventory isn’t tracked, it doesn’t only adversely impact organizational operations, causing staff to spend way too much time to find inventory. It could risk lives if certain items aren’t accessible at the point of need. A healthy combination of technology, human ingenuity, and basic managerial techniques are required for successful inventory management. An effective inventory management system not only allows a healthcare organization to track the use and availability of these instruments, it also reduces the chances of loss and theft.

Waste Management

W.P1 : Garbage Vehicle Tracking System

In most of the cities and rural areas, the garbage is usually collected during morning hours. A number of vehicles are sent, which collect the garbage in a haphazard fashion. Vehicles are sent even when it’s not required leading to an increase in fuel expenses. Similarly, think of other such factors & propose a solution to cut down unnecessary expenses. Your system should also show the timings of the garbage vehicles around the locality and also indicate the position of the vehicle in a real-time system.

W.P2 : Detection of Biodegradable waste with non-bio-degradable waste

In today’s time, a huge amount of waste is generated which includes both - Biodegradable as well as Non-Biodegradable. So efforts are made to control this ever-increasing generation of garbage. Households have been provided with separate dustbins for Biodegradable waste and non-bio-degradable waste. But many times they do not segregate the waste and dump in the same bin. A solution is required which could detect if segregation is not done.

W.P3 : Automatic illegal solid waste dumping alert system

There are many locations, where illegal waste is dumped by citizens. The participants are expected to provide a solution for real-time tracking and alert system for illegal waste dumping on the map. Participants may take any ward to provide a solution.

E.P1 : AR-based indoor Navigation

AR-based Indoor Navigation at Malls, Museums, Hospitals or Airports - At malls and shopping centers employ advertising is placed throughout their physical facilities. However, such advertisements often lack any information about the corresponding store within the facility and not even provide cues on how to navigate to the store from the location at which the advertisement is displayed. It is difficult to find a particular 1. ward, lab within hospitals 2. stores/shops at the mall. 3. section, compartments at the museum. Indoor navigation is essential for passengers at the airport. Develop an AR-based navigation system that will be able to provide a path to the desired destination with the easiest and shortest possible route.

E.P2 : Banking solution for visually impaired people

Today, business moves faster and more commercial activities are mainly dependent on banks. Moreover, the banking system is moving from offline to an online payment system which is not able to satisfy the needs of people with visual impairment. Develop a banking solution that would adapt to the needs of the visually impaired. Solutions can involve applications enabling this segment to access a range of financial services including balance queries, money transfer, etc.

E.P3 : AR-based education system

There is often a disconnect between the teacher and the students due to the content and mode of presentation in the classroom. This gap reduces the effectiveness of education that may lead to incorrect conceptual ideas in the minds of students. Provide a solution using AR technology to reduce this disconnect and make the classroom teaching more effective.

E.P4 : Realtime transcript generator

System needs to be developed to reduce the language barriers while in a different state or country. Develop a system to translate spoken words from a recording (Video/Audio) and generate a transcript in multiple Indian Languages.
